Oshkosh is a delightful place to visit in the spring. Once the snow melts and the weather warms, locals come out to enjoy the many incredible seasonal events and activities our town has to offer. We think Oshkosh is delightful any time of the year, but here are four reasons you should visit us in the spring.

1. The Riverwalk

After spending winter cooped up indoors, it is time to get outside and enjoy the beauty of Oshkosh. A great place to start is the Riverwalk, a flat, paved trail that stretches along both sides of the lovely Fox Fiver, connecting Downtown Oshkosh to the Wiouwash Trail. Along the way, you’ll enjoy great river views and a variety of restaurants, stores, and benches. The route can be walked or cycled. Many cyclists choose to extend their journey onto the Wiouwash Trail, which crosses Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Shawano counties, taking riders across beautiful prairies and wetlands.

 

2. The Festival of Spring

There is simply no better place to celebrate the start of spring than the Paine Art Center and Gardens, a historic Tudor Revival-style estate featuring gorgeous botanical gardens and an impressive collection of national and international art. During the spring, you’ll find over twenty beautiful gardens in full bloom. At the Paine’s Festival of Spring, you can also pick up some bulbs of your own through their Spring Plant Sale. They sell a wide selection of perennials and thousands of other plants, including some hard-to-find varieties. In addition, the festival boasts over 100 vendors selling original art, fine crafts, and gardening supplies. There will also be a food fair and live entertainment. Best of all, the Paine Center’s gorgeous mansion and gardens are free during the festival.

3. The Menominee Park Zoo

Menominee Park Zoo opens for the season in May. The zoo is located on the scenic banks of Lake Winnebago and specializes in excellent entertainment and education programs for people of all ages. Located just one mile from the Brayton Bed & Breakfast, visit the Menominee Park Zoo to see otters, eagles, wolves, elks, turtles, and so much more.

 

4. Water Sports

Oshkosh is located on the west shore of Lake Winnebago and is bisected by the Fox River, meaning water is always close by when you’re here. That’s why we encourage guests to get out and enjoy a variety of fun water sports during their stay. You can rent pontoons, paddle boats, kayaks, or canoes or simply admire the views at the Lakeside Marina. Miller’s Bay in Menominee Park & Children’s Area is also a great place to spend an afternoon with the family.
